Q. Why must the metal be changed all the time? ie valleys, wall flashings, chimney flashings etc
A. The metal creates the final seal for any roofing system. In order to guarantee this seal is done properly, all flashings must be removed to insure the step flashing behind them has been installed correctly. Also when new flashings are installed they are colour coordinated to your roof, making the overall appearance of your house much more esthetically pleasing (see our gallery for examples)
Q. Why do you use only metal pre painted vents as opposed to plastic?
A. Due to abusive UV rays and extreme heat that the sun can generate, plastic vents just don't have the durability the metal ones do. Plastic vents are more prone to warping, fading and cracking. Also plastic vents are much more vulnerable to rodents and birds, making them ideal nesting areas. These will block your vented areas which in turn can cause other problems such as the attic space is no longer releasing heat, which can rot the roof from the inside out.
Q. Can't you just re-caulk the old flashings?
A. Caulking, much like any other adhesive product only adheres as good as the material it is applied to. Re-caulking is somewhat like caulking on to sand. If the old caulking is already letting go from the walls the new caulking would not adhere properly to the brick allowing it to let go shortly after the old seal is broken.
Q. Why must the drip edge always go directly into the eavestroughs?
A. If water is permitted to go behind the eavestrough it could, and will in due time, rot out the fascia boards to which your eavestroughs are attached, eventually leading to the eavestroughing falling off.
